I crabbed out of Bogles on saturday and did a little better than most I talked to. Crabbed from 9am to 1pm with 20 traps and necks. We had one throw back and sixteen jimmy's all 7"-8". The crabs were amazing FULL of meat.

Tattoo, it is the end of June! Time flies, there are only five days left this month. Hopefully the Chester turns on this coming weekend.

Thats the Chester for you. Crabs bounce around almost daily. If you have crabs in one area, don't expect them to be there next week.
I don't see how the comms there make that much money, catching between 1-4 bushels.

The Chester is my regular crabbing spot for the last ten years. I have always done much better from middle of July on. June crabbing in the Chester has always been off and on. Can't figure it out.

bctcpa is correct. I dont start in the Chester until Mid-August and will stay there until Halloween. Not saying you cant catch crabs before then but if you want consistent numbers crabbing before August its a waste of time. Also, remember the Chester is a large river. I crab a feeder creek way up in the Chester. The Chester out by the mouth and narrows will turn on by July but I like the little creeks mostly to stay out of the wind. I drive 1hr 30 min. each way, so I need to catch at least a bushel of quality crabs for it to be worth the trip. Phil

A bushel packed so full it distorts the basket shape and lid. Same as Lid bender

camp pacometh is out towards the main river. It will still be August before the creeks get good. With the lack of rain and this heat it may turn on in a couple more weeks. I hit the Wye way up in the river system on the north side of Bennett Point where my Aunt and Uncle live on July 3rd. I ran 1200 ft of clams and 20 traps and we caught over 4 bushel. However, we only came home with 19 crabs. 7 of those crabs where 8-9 inchers, the rest @ 5.5-6 inch. I have never in my 30+ yrs of crabbing every seen so many 2-4 inch crabs. They are everywhere like spiders. We moved 4 times and even made a trip all the way out to the mouth of the Wye and headed north in crab alley. I have never been in Green wood Creek. We dropped 12 traps in there and had a 4 inch crab in every trap. What a long hot morning. Called a Comm bud of mine and picked up 2 dozen pot crabs from him to go with the 19 to eat on the 4th. Had a great holiday even though there was not the usual 2 bushels piled high on the table with the corn. Should be a great fall. I will be hitting the upper creeks in the chester in mid August when I get back from my annual member guest golf tourney in northern Vermont. May all you have baskets of fatdaddy's Phil
