Crabbed off Maple Road near DC yesterday with topless traps, box style traps and handlines. It was a so so day, we were using bunker which seemed to hit pretty good. The issue was getting the keepers, we had approx. over 100 throwbacks, we kept pulling up babies or crabs that were just shy of the 4 1/2 mark. The greenheads were the absolute worst that I have ever seen, we tried insect repelent and the clip on thing that is supposed to repel bugs nothing seemed to work. It calmed them from biting for a few and kept them to just swarming but then they continued biting again. Our car was covered in them. We got out there about 11:30 am and left around 8 p.m. with 23 keepers. Most around 5 1/4 - 6  about 2-3 that were a little over 6. We were hoping for more, but all in all it turned out to be a good day and couldn't have asked for better weather.

Drove by Maple yesterday at about 6pm, good south west breeze, but greenheads were still busy. Can't understand how you young guys can put up with them even for 5 mins. The place was still growded.

at Tash I have no idea how we did it. The first time we came to Jersey this year they weren't really bad at all. But this time it was INSANE. We usually crab in Maryland so we are not used to that at all. We were literally dancing, and swatting at them and finally gave up other people were just sitting there calmly as if they didn't even notice them there. I have NO IDEA how they did that one. It was bad enough for me to not want to do that again. lol

Don't you just love as your pulling up how they attack your car.  You know you're in for it then.  I haven't had much luck with anything, best trick I've been told is rubbing dryer sheets on your skin.  I can't wait until their gone!

I surely can't do that - I saw Greenheads for the first time this past weekend - I swatted one down to use as a measuring stick laugh
