Last Thursday I went to north wildwood for a swim on that 100 degree day.  While swimming, my foot kept hitting what felt like a large shell or rock.  I picked it up and there it was, a live veined rapa whelk the size of two softballs.  I put in on ice to take home.  When I looked it up, I found that it's an invasive species from the sea of Japan.  So I felt good about keeping it (I sashimi'd it as well, it's pretty good with soy sauce) but from what have read, the latest info has them invasive in the chesapeake and not listed anywhere else.  Is there anyone that can pass this information along? that these one of these whelks made it to wildwood nj.
