Headed out to Shrewsbury on Friday morning, before 5 a.m., with nothing but a canoe, a Md. style crab trap and a couple of drop lines. Was meeting Zee Man at Irwin Marine later that morning, and thought I'd drop the trap in the Shrew before meeting up with him.

I paddled out of the boat ramp at Blackberry Bay Park, and headed east.  stopped around the bend, near the channel and even with that first marina.  dropped the trap there.  Tried the drop lines and had some hits on them, but netting from a canoe is not easy.

picked up the trap the next day (today, around 5 p.m.).  three crabs in there.  No hoping for more, but I'll take it.  had the trap baited with chicken, bunker, eel and more chicken.  I thought it would be a delicious buffet for those crabs.

boy, the mosquitos were out in force around 5 a.m.!  I was being attacked; I couldn't keep them off me.  Four or five at a time.

I know what a canoe is, but what's an MD style crab trap?   Grin

You need to change the name of the trap you used....unless you are talking about the patapsco river in md.   laugh laugh laugh laugh

We go more generic and call it a Chesapeake type trap ($35-50).   Some are taller than others.  Maryland can't have all the credit.

It's considered a commerical trap in NJ.   You need a license as a recreational user and you're limit is two traps in NJ.  The license is only $2

I used to have two traps. Now I use just one.  Thieves stole one from the Navesink and another from Cheesequake in NJ.  The state requires all kinds of markings and reflectors and the float.  Making it easier for some POS to steal.  I disguise it as a soda bottle you have to drive over to find now.

Not so sure about that, Ronster.  There's a reason that 10 people have chosen to ignore CRABSHACK on a forum that is all about sharing information, stories, tips, reports, etc.

I'm sure about it.    He has a quirky sense of humor that not everyone appreciates.

Let's not take this any further.
