my father in law (crabbing partner and owner of the boat, so my options are limited) insists on launching from sandy point.  we are from PA, and he doesn't want to cross the bay bridge to launch (extra money for crossing, and potential for ugly traffic coming back).  if we MUST launch from sandy point, where some nearby hot spots for hardshells?  what are some areas to avoid?  thanks for any info!

What part of Pa are you coming from?  It is possible to come from the Delaware side of Md. down the Eastern shore.  If your in Eastern Pa that is a possibility.  I know many people avoid the bridge for a multitude of reasons, even fear.  I personally choose my times carefully, usually the middle of the night and mostly traffic is very light.

central...think gettysburg.  its not the bridge on the trip down, its coming home where the issue is.  we went out yesterday and launched from kent island because sandy point was appearently closed due to lack of power (so says the bait shop where we tried getting our liscense, but they had no power as well).  the trip back wasn't bad...but there was a lot of traffic.  luckily we didn't have to sit too much.

I tried tom launch from Sandy Pt. Sat . It was closed, power out. Ended going to Fairwinds on the Magothy. Power was out there as well but ramp was open.

Sandy Point is a nice place to launch, (about 22 boat ramps), but once you leave the protected area and enter the bay, you are at the mercy of the wind and 50 million boat wakes on a weekend day.

U can also launch at truxtun park and run up the severn.  It can get choppy out around the corner though. Would be some nice creeks to crab in there but impossible with all the boats anchored

I was so upset on Sunday when I went down there, but they was closed no power and had to spend $8 to catch a bushel out of the Severn.  There is a spot just off the bay bridge and the ramp is only made for two boats.  The way back was ruff, but I did make it back safely.

$20 per launch, I think it's $200 per year. Alot of money but they have the market cornered.

I never had a prob yet either.  I'm guessing it was one or two punks doing all the window smashing, who either live somewhere else now, grew up, or are in jail.
