I'm going on vacation in Corolla July 21st to 28th. I'm interested in doing some crabbing with the kids. Can anyone offer any advise as to where and how to crab off land in and around the Corolla area. I have 30 traps i could bring and buy bait that is recommended. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Contact Gemecrabman he is down in Collington about 20 miles south of that area on MP 8 just behind the Wright Brother memorial..... He can hook you up....
like FP said not much access to crab back there on the sound,  you also could try to rent a skiff down along the cause way by whalebone tackle if you wnated to try from a boat , if you not bring one down........  or call Gene   Wink

Call Gene.  Spent a day with him last week.  Awesome time.
Also head up to the Currituck Lighthouse.  You can chicken neck there.  But otherwise, theres not many areas on the sound to crab from shore.  You can rent a boat for about $200 for 4 hours!  I think a kayak would work and be cheaper!

Is the Whalehead Club still open to the public? It's been a while since I've been down the OBX, but we used to take the kids to the Whalehead club and handline. We would catch a few, then we would go buy more crabs for dinner.

I'll be down there the following week in Corolla and will be putting my boat in at the Whalehead club.   I did really well there last year by boat.  There's a couple docks and a few spots at the club where people were crabbing from land.  Get chicken for bait at the supermarket or bring some down with you.  There's a bait shop right near the Whalehead club that was selling bags of frozen necks with 4 necks in them for I think $10.  I have a couple reports on here from my trip last year that will give you the details.
