New to crabbing and was wandering on water depth for trot lining on wye river? Should i run line from say... Shallow to deep back to shallow? Across a channel?along side channel? Any help would be great.  Thanks much.  Kiss

Laying your line cross channel does not usually make new friends or for a smooth day on the water.

Your idea to hit many different depths to me sounds like a good one - remember if what you are doing at the present time is not working - don't be afraid to pull the line and try something else.

The problem is a mediocre catch - do I continue what I am doing and be pleased - do I move and possibly do worse.

When catching nothing the answer is clear - however so so makes one scratch their head.
