Souldn't be much of an issue for most. I have not seen many in that size range. It has been either smalls or jumbos on my lines.

Does anyone even keep 5 inch crabs?  I don't think I have kept one all year.  When I compare a five incher to the other crabs it just doesn't make sense for me to keep em.

usually try to stay at 5 1/2 and up.. as season wears on and they are running better / bigger I start at 6 if possible..... It depends if I have folks coming over to eat might keep some smaller crabs if they are muddy and hard..... prefer a small heavy crab over a 7 inch papershell.... just me I guess.... Just thought I would post as an FYI as some folks do not know the size changes mid season..... when I got checked last year at the wye DNR was really up on the size change and did I know that it changed etc etc... that seemed to be more an issue than if I had my license or not.. so got me..... maybe a lot of folks just keep whatever crabs they catch or don't measure .... ...  anyway now no one has any excuses   Wink laugh laugh laugh

I solved that problem by making 2 new measures 5.5". Made them look just like the old ones, one is marked 5" and the other is marked 5.25" so the normal people that go with me (my 9 year old, dad and family) have no idea they are throwing 5"-5.5" crabs back. I have been using it since april, so by using this I dont or anyone else on the boat dont have to worry about the size change.

I don't think I have ever kept a 5" or 5 1/4" crab, not even a Grand Aisle crab.
