Crabbed the Navesink.  Considered Oceanic Bridge, but made that plan B.  Ran down from Rumson Ramp to Red Bank.  Never needed plan B

Very very slow start.  Between the Bridges a slow pick. Overwhelming shorties.  Dozens and dozens.   Most were so small they fell through the trap slots ( use 6 traps, a MD version, and handlines)

Moved East.  The size turned on!  Even scooped up a swimmer.  NEVER saw this before- the swimmer was a softie!

Water temp was 83.9 degrees on the incoming tide which is pretty warm for incoming tide.   Stayed on water until tide turned and peaked abot 5:30.  Was sweaty hot with a slight 5 mph breeze. Almost put up the beach umbrella.

Frigging juggers had the channels loaded with dozens of detergent bottles.  One of the jugger boats was labeled "Irwins" with 5 geriatric passengers.  That boat looked like an out take from "on Golden Pond"  LOL

Total 55 crabs!    Best so far for 2012.  Way behind same spots compared to 2010 & 2011.   The mediums rules.  Not a lot of big guys.

One guy passed me on way in.  Classic line!   He asked how I did, then told me he had two bushels.  Then said one is empty and the other one is about half full.  THAT WAS FUNNY!

Obviously, they have no clue. I like the guys who anchor directly in the channel and then get mad when boats coming in and out pass "too close" to them. Idiots.

Nice report. Good job! I'm not shy to get as close as possible in the channels. These people know better. And if they don't, they dont shouldn't be out renting boats. Shame on them and Shame on Irwins for letting them rent....

Exactly, you're not in the channel. Nothing wrong with being close to it just not in it. What would be really funny is if that was not a no wake zone. Maybe funny isn't the right word....

I don't think Irwins rents boats.  Probably the marina's boat.

Irwins boaters sit on the T- head to yelling at people going by that narrow channel going more than 3 knots.  Those clowns should be the last to screw with things by intentionally putting dozens of obstacles in the channel.  Albeit the channel can't be seen from Irwins.  And vice versa

I never thought of that, I lost an anchor on Sunday by one of the bridges, my daughter decided to drop anchor before I tied it to the boat. I'll be picking up a treble, I remember exactly where it dropped. Thanks Kathy.

I was on the Navesink out of Chris's same day. My friend brought his boat, did well between 10 and noon, then very slow. Many small ones that pretty much slipped through the traps, as stated above. Keepers were all over 6 inches with a few at 7. Finished with only two dozen, but we set a high standard. Day ended on a sour note as my buddies' battery died, and spent the last 2 hours "paddling" (no oars)a bass boat back to Chris's from just south of the rt 35 bridge against the tide and the late afternoon wind. A workout I didn't need, but the crabs taste great!

Should have called me on 16?  Or yelled over as I passed by- could have towed you back.

DOn't remember seeing you though.  Everyone I saw from Front Street Bridge to Oceanic Bridge had power under way that afternoon.

Give me a hollar on Ch 16.  15' tan Aluminum boat, VHF antenna sticking up.  Lost my crab flag that used to be hanging on the antenna. Smiley

Great catch Frank.  Good to hear you came in with good numbers.  Looking forward to hitting the Sink in the upcoming weeks.  Still not sure when though.   thumbsup

Capt. Frank,

Thanks. I got my days wrong, I was there on the 9th. There was one guy with 2 sun bathers on board who asked how we were doing. Told him we fared pretty well, but our battery died. All he asked is if we had oars, and he kept on going. I knew he couldn't be one of the board regulars. I'm buying my buddy a small outboard, it's worth the investment versus a few rentals out of RBM!

No problem.  If I'm there don't think twice about asking.
