I haven't checked this year, but you might be able to try off the docks in Apponaug Harbor. There are two Marinas there: one across from the Crows Nest and another further down on the peninsula (just follow the water taking lefts). You might not take home dozens, but you should be able to find enough to get your kids hooked. I grabbed my largest Sally off the Crow's Nest guest dock last year, but the crabbing was altogether slow. There is a bit more activity off the docks further down on the peninsula (I believe it is called Dickerson's Apponuag Harbor Marina). Good luck.

If it is just you and your son with a couple of traps, you should be alright. The Crow's Nest Guest dock is where people tie up to eat at the restaurant. You should be good there. I think you will be OK at Dickerson's if you stay on the docks furthest to the north.
