Hello everyone, so I've been doin the crab thing my whole life, and as a kid always went to Colonial Beach with my father, now I have an 8 year old son of my own and want to get out crabbing with him, but Colonial Beach is not the greatest place to go anymore.  I've ventured to Westmoreland state park a few times with no luck, I know I should move closer to the bay, but am not sure where I can go.

I've never done a trot line, and do not own a boat, so that makes my options difficult, I've always tied off chicken lines to the pier and grabbed them with a net as they come up.

I live close to Richmond as well, not sure if there are any spots off the James that would be good, or even going out on the Rappahanock, any input would be great!

and BTW, I know, there are no crabs in VA Cheesy

Id like to hear a few responses to this.  Living in NoVa, it be worth the trip down that way.   Can't imagine why crabbing isnt any good in the Potomac, you figure the crabs would move up as the salt line worked its way up the river.....But there never seem to be reports for the Potomac.

When I was into Bass fishing tournaments big time there would always be a line of boats waiting to launch trot lining out of Nanjemoy creek. Thats just above Port Tobacco. Think they did pretty well at that part of Potomac. Have seen commercial pot floats North of Mattawoman Crk.

Fishbonzs......where do you crab?  Just a general area is fine, just curious if I ever decided to try.  Also, 600 ft trotline is the max U can use unless u have the $30 Permit?  I think thats what I read sometime last year regarding regulations in the Potomac river.
