The days are getting shorter, and hunting season is about here.  The hectic schedule is telling me that tomorrow the 9/10 will likely be the day out on the crick for me.  I'll be heading out of Hansey in my yellow Mirrocraft Resort with the evinrude 9.9, with Cuz and Cuz Jr., to try and catch enough for dinner and hopefully a few bags for the freezer to pull out for some deer camp crabs and spaghetti.

It's been a season to remember, I've enjoyed everyone's reports and the good fun here.  Thanks especially to Steve for putting this great site together.  I'll post my last crab report of '05 after the trip, and of course will be continue to watch everyone else's.  If anyone's interested I'll post some pics of the Montana Pronghorn and Bird trip in October.

I made it out to the creek on Saturday morning and got off to a little bit of a slow start.  With the outgoing tide almost all the way gone and needing to sit through the slack low it was to be expected.  It was a beautiful day  with comfortable temps and the occasional fluffy white cloud going by. The only bugs around were the gnats that were easily kept at bay with a little deet.

The tide finally started turning so we went to one of my honey holes and all [Sam Hill] broke loose.  It was almost like work with at least 1 crab in every trap every time we pulled them in.  The hand lines seemed to have crabs on them almost before they hit the water.  We went at it hard until we had just about a full bushel of all males and nothing under 5".  With the long ride back and plenty of crabs we decided to head back in by about 1:00 though we probably could have filled another bushel if we stayed another hour or two.

We got back home and cleaned a couple dozen for the crabs and spaghetti, the rest were cleaned an neatly placed in the freezer in meal sized bags.  Though not as good as fresh, they are welcome during the winter to bring back the memoriesd of a great summer of crabbing.  I can hardly wait until being up at deer camp coming in from a long day in the stand to sit down to the summers catch.

Once again I have really enjoyed this site and everyone's reports and comments.  I look forward to next season.  Best of luck to everyone who's still out there hittin' them hard.
