Crabs are way up in The River, all the way up to the TL on Barley Neck in East Orleans (Meeting House Pond). This can be fairly easy pickin's if you're out in the water, which there was a lot of when I got there near mid-outgoing. It was hot, it was humid, and the water was murkier than usual, it seemed. I went south from the TL - a few here and there. Then I went north and found many more. The keepers were average sizes and for every keeper, I must have spotted a dozen small ones. Got a dozen or so and then decided to try another spot, the Bass River in Dennis, where I frequently have a lot of luck.

Not this time, though. The tide was still going out, the water was mainly opaque, and the wind was stronger than predicted. Instead of 8-11, I would say it was more like 12-18. Makes a big difference when you need as much vision into the water as possible. It was windy enough, in fact, that I later found out that my stepson had gone kitesurfing in nearby West Dennis. I managed to nab a few more and called it a day.

It's been my experience that as we get into later August, the Mid and Outer Cape crabbing can dry up in a hurry. Anyway, not too bad a day all in all. Just had a nice crab sandwich for lunch!
