They're good-- you eat them like a drumstick.

I usually put the knife in behind the head and cut down but not all the way through.  Then I grab the backbone with pliers and pull the skin off by pulling on the head in my other hand.  Kind of turn the skin inside out toward the tail.

they were too small for anything worth eating. I just let them dry in the sun or let the seagulls eat them.

....don't throw them back! They eat blue crabs!

oh c'mon, lets not forget we're on top of the food chain for a reason.

I don't see any reason to help populate blowfishes in the area if they are taking away what majority of us are looking for there. If someone eats it, its ok, but if I don't throw it back its not? At the end I'm just trying to keep the area populated with crabs and not undersized blowfishes.

Of course if someone had asked me to take them off my hand I'd be glad to give them away.

Because of the size of it, it seems not worth the work to eat them plus having limited restaurants in the US that has to be specially trained to prep and serve blowfish makes me wary of cleaning and eating them myself.

If they're too small, throw em back. They're not going to stay small forever. And like most have said, they're good eating. Blow fish aren't the only ones eating crabs and effecting crab populations. Lets not forget all those people taking undersized crabs. That's way more of a problem then some stupid blow fish. It's a [dang] shame to see so many fish go to waste. No reason at all for it.

It's the Japanese fugu puffer that has the poison gland that can kill you if you don't clean it right. North American puffers are a different, non-poisonous species. I thoroughly researched this before keeping some last year, since we always bring so many of them up in the traps on Long Island and in the Barnegat, and so glad i did. They're delicious, and very easy to eat for kids.

if there too small to eat instead of wasting them why don't you freeze and try to use as bait next time.  Your thinning the herd, getting free bait, and helping the crab population get revenge.

Sounds like a plan, I wonder do the blue crabs actually eat blowfish.

Also thanks for all the insight  surrounding blowfishes and the 'poison' clarification. I will probably try to eat some and if they end up being too much work, I'll just use them as bait.

But I do hope they are not around next time, its definitely sad that all my bait gets eaten within 15 minutes and pulling up nothing but blowfishes.

Will be back there later this week and give an update.

Anyone that kills an animal for sport is an a**hole in my book. I have no problem with hunting or fishing if you eat what you catch but to catch something, no matter what it is, and just let it die then as far as I am concerned you deserve the same. Do you think I like to catch 100 sea robbins when I go Fluke fishing? No!!! But I still throw them back alive. Eat what you kill bonehead!!!

Roll Eyes. Blowfish just started making a comeback after years and years of overfishing, and you, "who knows absolutely zero about fishing or crabbing as demonstrated by your complete lack of knowledge" tries to wipe them out  Roll Eyes.

Peta my [arse]  I worked fishing boats for a number of years and have killed more fish than your little brain can imagine. But i and my Family eat what we kill. You dont even know the difference between a blowfish and a fugu  Roll Eyes. Yhea, your the bright one  Roll Eyes, and on top of killing some good eating fish right there and totally wasting them  Roll Eyes you are then stupid enough to post a picture of it  Roll Eyes.
