Beware of the guy in orange

Ignore
« on: September 18, 2005, 05:26:30 PM »

Went to undisclosed location this morning and raked in a packed bushel of, how you say,  blue crabs.  Went out at about 5:50 am, put down zero handlines, and caught zero crabs on said handlines.  Surveyed undisclosed location, and... whats this?  Only 2 other people in aforementioned undisclosed location???  There is a God!  Had my regular crabbing buddy next to me with his traps, and one commercial guy who is usually out there and in his spot.

Under bright shining moon, layed out the first long line at 6:21:00:00:00.  [dang], wasted a whole minute.  Made a few runs... yep, crabs were there!

Turned off running lights and layed second line in shallower water.  Made a few runs.... sorta yep, crabs were sorta there.  Watched awesome sunrise, felt good to be alive!

Packed bushel of nice crabs by 9:30 am.  Bait held up good and could have kept going with another licensee (my Dad), but decided to call it quits.

Fired up winder... hauled in lines will sitting on my [arse].  Back in good shape.  This is livin'

Thought Seaweed's Towing and Recovery was going to have to spring into action around 8:00 or so.  Saw stalled vessel in channel, but another bigger boat (a Parker) towed the disabled vessel in.

Here are some pictures of my rig and the crabs.  I'm going to make a more portable bracket for the winder this winter and move it more forward to the bow.  Today was just a throw-it-together-and-test-it operation, but it worked fine, just slow.  Need bigger, faster motor.  Let me know if anyone comes across one!

Seaweed,

That 's a nicely packed Merrland bushel you got there!

At what depth was your best lay of the day?  (for catching crabs. that is)

Nice job SW. You 'Got 'R Did' Cool. I like Islander's idea of the supercharged tractor engine for the winder. That should get the tub on plane by itself when you pull your lines in!  laugh

They seemed to be hitting best in about 6 to 8 feet.  But it wasn't really consistent.

That would be pretty scary.  I'm thinking chainsaw motor might be more the right idea. laugh laugh

way to Rock Seaweed.. my observation of the pics indicate you have a very efficient operation going on, despite the tub.. you define the phrase 'Get r Done' !...
