Whats up with the Gunpowder this year? I haven't had a good catch there yet this year. The tide was higher than I have ever seen there before on Saturday morning when I put in. I guess that was because of the moon phase. It was a beautiful day on the water, plenty of sun and the water was flat. The downside is that I only caught 1 dozen crabs, yep, thats right, 1 dozen. Anyone else have a report from Saturday? Hope somebody did better than I!

I went last week and caught none.

Sunday I went to the Bird River.  Fourteen traps, five runs and caught 3 crabs.

Was out on the Gunpowder Saturday by 6am and had only 8 crabs by 11am. Hopped on another boat that had been out since 6am and had  25 crabs at 2:30.

I crabbed out by Maxwell point yesterday. (9/19) From 7:30 - 2:30., only 40 crabs. I couldn't get in my usual spot until about 12:00. Got most of the crabs after I moved to my spot, from 12 feet of water to 9 and 10 feet. Most around the 7 - 71/2" range with about a half dozen through backs. All dark and heavy. Still alot of work for a few crabs. It did seem like the tide was high the whole time I was out there though. Maybe better Sat.

I went out on the 19th in the gunpowder and pulled in 1.75 bushel. Ran 11oo ft trot line and 30 topless traps. crabbed from 6:10 am til 10:30 am. Most crabs were large and heavy. 6.5-8 inches. Good day
Moved to 2 different spots. Inside and outside the bridge Grin

Same here Fishburn.  Went out over the weekend and got 2 packed bushels.  Very surprised, because of all the talk on the forum.  Didn't even have to measure a single crab, all were big and heavy.  It was a long day, but well worth it.  Don't know how to do the picture thing on here yet, but if I figure it out, I'll post the pics.  This is my first year crabbing and it was the third time out for me and this was by far the best.  Can't wait til my pops takes me out again.

not sure where on the gunpowder we were, don't know much about the area.  We were using a trout line and some traps.  I mostly do the traps.  Not to good at driving the boat straight enough to run the line and get yelled at when i miss a crab when dipping.  Like the traps the best, they seem to always be the biggest crabs of the day.

I've been known to drive it straight into the only buoy in a five mile radius.

Sounds like the Gunpowder is pretty hot right now. I was gonna head to crab alley but I think I might just try the Gunpowder again this Saturday. Sounds like nobody did very good last Saturday but since then its gotten better. I guess that was just an off day. Good Luck to you all!

I think your right about the Gunpowder being a hot spot right now. It might take a little while depending on the tide but you will probably get your limit of nice crabs no matter if your using a line or traps. The biggest issue out there is going crowds and getting to your spot before someone else. Best of luck to everybody! Nothing beats 2 bushell of crabs and three bushell of beer. (Except 3 of each!).
