I had steamed crabs (large) at Cantler's in Annapolis, MD this past Sat. , 8/16, and was not overly impressed.   Cantler's was highly recommended by several sources as best in the area.  Seasoning was simply dropped on the tray of crabs after steaming, so some crabs were not seasoned at all.  As delivery to my table took less than 5 mins., they were obviously not cooked to order.   Of the dozen, a few were overcooked with the meat of mushy consistency.  A few were also anorexic - not "heavy" or "fat" as were being billed by waitresses as patrons were considering ordering crabs!   Cantler's is also a very crowded establishment.

I would have to agree with you Jimmy.  I too was led to believe that Cantler's was an 'A' #1 crab house but I had the same experience that you had.  Crabs that are steamed in just water with some seasoning thrown on after they are cooked just don't cut it with me and I also had crabs that I know had been "warmed" up as well as mushy crabs.  Guess I've learned my lesson.  I'll stick to steaming my own!

Been by there by truck and by boat..never ate there but yes its a very busy place. I have seen several crab houses that add the spice to the finished crabs. Buy or catch some crabs and steam em your self next time. The DC -Baltimore area is getting more and more crowded, lots of people with money to spend, some times too many people and to poplar a place ruins them. I like Capt. Johns Crabhouse on Cobb Island in the early afternoon on off days when I feel like crabs..also try Skippers pier at Deale Md..more laid back then the big name places.
