Hey hey all! Smiley

Was wondering if anyone has used or has any info on the CRAB ALERT traps??

http://cgi.ebay.com/TWO-NEW-CRAB-ALERT-CRAB-TRAPS_W0QQitemZ7209972074QQcategoryZ384QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Saw em and was wondering about them...
Was thinking of oprdering one to try out...

Any info would be good, and if anyone knows any possible implications using them in florida waters?

Thanks!

Kevin got back to me right away!

That's always a good sign...

I am ordering 10 "topless" traps. He seems like a great guy and his prices are excellent. I must also say that he is very fair on shipping. Where as most places I have seen online that sell traps charge a set amt. for the first trap (Shipping I mean) and addl $$ for each trap thereafter. Kevin gave me an excellent shipping price and I must say I simply had to jump on it. So I am off to pick up a money order and now I can't wait till they get here and I can get out Crabbin' Smiley

Thanks everyone for the help. Smiley

Saw  and copied this this from the MD DNR website.

Recreational Crabbing Reminders
A new crab trap is showing up at Maryland sport fishing retail stores under the name of CRAB ALERT. This trap is designed so that when a crab grabs the bait, a spring-loaded trap door closes automatically. Please be aware that a crab trap that automatically closes, without a manual force, is illegal to use in Maryland. Using illegal methods to catch crabs has a maximum penalty of $500 for the first offense.

According to Maryland regulation, a collapsible crab trap is defined as a manually operated, portable device having a flat bottom not more than 1 square foot, and not more than four articulated sides, each with an area not more than 1 square foot. The trap shall be designed so that failure to apply manually exerted tension on the closing mechanism allows the crabs to escape. In other words, a crab trap must allow crabs to enter and exit

I bought two and they're the worst I've ever used.  I have watched crabs in shallow water crawl in them and crawl out, the spring lever does not go off and the float doesn't release.  Don't waste your money on them.
The baskets seem to work the best.
Good luck!
