In the 3 1/2 years I've lived down here in Fort Lauderdale, I haven't done much crabbing...even though I used to go all the time back in NJ. I guess life is just too busy lately. Sad

Anyway, stopped at the launch ramp just off Oakland Park Blvd and Dixie Hwy today to eat lunch. While there, we seen quite a few crabs on the pilings/bottom. Made a quick decision to grab some traps and some frozen bait from the house, and headed back to the ramp/dock. We had 8 traps out for about the last 2 hours of incoming tide. We got approx a dozen crabs (didn't count them), with most of them being very nice sized. Even got one that has to go at least 7 inches (probably the biggest I've ever caught).

Considering that I haven't seen many crabs in  this area, and that nobody really goes for them down this way, I'm very happy with the amount we caught. It pales in comparison to the crabbing back up North, but I don't want to be one of those people with the "it wasn't that way up Nawth" crapola. Grin

Thanks. I guess it beats nothing at all, but I would love to be able to catch crabs down this way like you guys catch them up there. That's one of the few things that I do miss about back in NJ.

BTW.....just measured the biggest one. Comes in at exactly 7 1/4 inches. And the claws are huge.....they look like they would come from an even bigger crab. Definately the biggest crab I've ever caught. Grin
