I gotta be honest, If the sook are 5" or less I toss em back. Smallest I took today was 5 3/4. All there are are females. I caught 15-20 today and they were all female. There is no size limit or sex limit here, but I always throw sponges and < 5" females back. Bag limit for the day is 10Gal per person I took maybe 2 gals.. Just enough for my dinner.. Wink

Let's put it this way.. I ran into about 15 Older fisherman that look like they had been fishing there 100 years.. they asked politely what I was doing, then said, "Crabs? You actually eat those?" I was amazed.. Most people here in florida will fish, but they rarely crab. Recreational shrimping is much bigger than crabbing. It seems all the crab caught here goes north. If the army is marching anywhere, March over to the guys I saw today Looking for 1-2" crabs to sell for bait.  they had a few hundred. I think the whole "Rarity" in blue crabs may be a local problem. They seem to be in HUGE Abundance, remember we have no real winter. And yes, I am a bit disturbed.. Tongue lol But I am sorry a 7 3/4 inch female goes straight into the bucket unless she's got eggs.

Lol, Sorry.. Gals.. is just lazy for Gallons on my part. Florida law says Any recreational crabber is allowed 10 Gallons of crab per person per day, which I equate to two Five gallon buckets full per person. Since My wife and I go together, it's Four five gallon buckets per day. They state there is no limit on sex or size, but common sence dictates that you toss egg bearing or immatures back. I also like to try for my Five Gallon limit per person on Shrimp as well. What A Trip a full limit catch would be for the two of us, 20 Gallons of crabs and Two five gallon buckets full of shrimp.. Smiley Mmmmm...

Florida is weird like that.  Everythin is done in gallons.  Shrimp, crabs, scallops, oysters, everything except fish and lobsters.  Ive lived there my whole life and he is right.  I think in my 24 years of living in florida i saw maybe 2 recreational blue crabbers.  I did it once, and that was after coming back from a week in maryland when I handlined my first blue crab.   Only time i ever caught blue crabs was for tarpon or drum bait or if they were chowin on my bait at the end of my fishing pole.

M,

Ok I am jealous.  Enjoy the weather and the crabs.  It is real mild up here this year, but I still think there is winter to come.  ST is right..watch out for the sook army.  Grin  To each his own.  My buddy said the same thing he lives on the gulf side below tampa in Bradenton.  He says there are lots of blue crabs, but no really crabs for them except as bait.  He being a maryland native like myself goes and crabs and catches alot of 7 inchers when possible and I try to keep him supplied with JO...
Enjoyed the pics...

Wow just when I was ready to get the adreniline going the blood pressure rose instead. We throw back males bigger than you are keeping. Find some brackisk water. There's a 7 1/2" female in the picture below, you can see where it is going. Angry And Big Al you are stooping to that. laugh

Well to each his own, hope you enjoyed them, but don't expect us to get too excited. Shocked Grin Wink Cool Cool
