Greg, Good luck and have you tried mullet in the traps? It's an oily fish, not as bad as bunker but should work?

A friend of mine says he is using these big arse sardines and he says they are super oily and work great. Might try that too.

Went out to the "hole" today for a few hours. I did some handlining and also droped in the pot. I didn't get a single crab in the pot but I switched my bait to Spaniish Sardines (the biiiig ones) and the crabs were attacking the handlines like it was crack on a string. I wasn't there very long but I did catch dinner. I also did some fishing but with no luck, I did see a nice sized flounder not two feet from where I was casting and a (what I believe to be) stingray.

Here is dinner...

Gregacy, Ask this group about that pink gel stuff in the crabs!
Also, if you can, post a picture of it! Wink

Went out to the spot just after sundown with the deep woods OFF and my lantern. Scored about half-a-cozen good size crabs handlining.

Don't think I will be going back there for a while. There is a frontend loader parked right before my spot on the trail so it is getting hard to get to.

I used one of the loaders track's to cut my sardines on. Stupid county! I then went under the bridge in Stuart and caught a good sized catfish. Blah.

 Happy crabbing yall!!

Went out again today and caught 12 good size crabs with the dip net and one single crab with the pot.

Just goes to show...crabs don't do pot.

Yeah.. I chummed the shoreline with the spanish sardines and then waited for the crabs to come running. Then I just scouped them up with a dip net.

I catch dozens this way.

I want to start trot lining from shore. I think this will do well at my new spots.

That's great!  How do you get them out of the net if some of them clamp down on it?

I just turn it upside down and shake it a little. They let go after a few seconds. It helps that I use a net designed just for crabbing.

Thanks a lot.  Are those nets expensive?

I paid about $8.00 for it. It has a 7ft pole on it.

I've been looking for a better crabbing net. Do you recall the source? I haven't found a net I've liked the look of yet. If you know where I can look at one, please pass along the information.

I got mine from a bait shop in Ft. Pierce. It's on Fishermans Warf Dr.  Right off US1 when you come into FT. Pierce.

Come to the Palatka crab fest on memorial day weekend and I will buy a new one for you and you can just pay me the cost.

I'll take a picture and get a company name for you.
