I am new to the area and live off of Route 9 near the shooting range and soccer club.  I grew up in Jersey crabbing and would like to get into it in Delaware.   Are there any good local spots to crab in New Castle County or is the river too polluted this far up north?  If so, what would be the closest decent place for me to try my luck?  Any information you give me would be of help.  Thank you.

Anskyman,

You need to go south on rt. 9 to Leipsic in Kent Cointy.  Take a ride on 9 to check it out.  Do you have a boat?  There are crabs in the river and bay.

I don't have a boat.  I am looking for a decent dock or pier to crab off of.

If you go to sussex county there are a few areas to crab from like the Rosedale Beach public fishing area.  FYI

Anchor   Do people crab from the Cape Henlopen Pier?

Mikesr,

I have seen nice crabs caught off the Henlopen pier, but from what I hear it's VERY spotty there.

Years ago I crabbed off orf route 9 at one of those little bridges, but stopped because they were infested with nasty little red worms-and they also had pepper disease...not good.

Anchor,   My buddy got the deal w/the state to run the tackle shop there on the peir.  I'm sure he will keep a vigilent eye on the folks who know no creel limits. You should see what goes on at the IR Inlet.  It is the same scenerio with tog.  I think we have 40 F&W officers for the state. Huh  The state should have a training program that sticks a F&W cadet on the peir and at the inlet and any other high traffic areas.

Crabaholic,  I'm suprised the mosquitos didn't carry you away.  Were the red worms on the inside of the crab? Lips Sealed

Anchor,   You hit the nail on the head.   Happens at the IR Inlet.  It is like a bucket brigade. Angry

I don't know Dan but have seen his shop on Longneck Rd.  I go to Rick's Bait and Tackle.

My buddies name is Bob S.  He used to work at Capt. Bill's on Rt. 1
