You know Joe , most people don't even know where their crabmeat comes from half the time . When they tell me they got it real cheap or on sale , I'll ask where it's from and most of the time they look at you like you have 3 eyes or something. People just don't get it . I always read the back of the container and if it's from any where besides Md. or Va. , I usually pass on it . But that's just me . Each to his own .

Well thats a problem because most of the maryland meat was just picked in maryland not always md crabs. Just like those crabmeat companies in md that have a reapckers license. They can buy meat from la nc fla wherever and just put their containers on it. So it is not always as it seems trust me on this one.

I'm not trying to be a smart a**. I just want to know why you comm. crabbers don't form a coop like the lobstermen in Maine. Every little town along the coast has a coop, they regulate the supply and price of lobster on the market. Why wouldn't that work for Md. Crabs? JMHO

Well there has been some recent talk about forming a co-op...But when it will happen who knows...Right now all the comm guys are working to survive and really are not thinking about it.

In 1973 #1's were $15.00 and females were $6.00 that was At Schnaitmans. But remember gas was 26.9 cents a gal. Cigarettes were 60-70 cents a pack. American cheese was 59 cents a lb. and a pair of Levi's was $6.95. I think the mininum wage was $1.75 an hour. I know I was  in my second year of teaching in Dallas, Pa. and my take home pay was $220.25 every 2 weeks. My mortgage was $99.80 a month. Just a little trivia for yall.

Interesting facts.

I know everything is relative, but 23 years later the price of crabs has DROPPED $5?  I don't think so.  Thats not relative. Thats a crime.  If relativity held up, they ought to be about $75-$100.  Gas has increased 5 times, so why not the price of crabs?

Yeah, there are a lot of crabs down south and the market is flooded.  But I think the problem is the season... it ain't crab-eating season yet.  Nobody wants them yet.  Wait until memorial day Roll Eyes

Thats one thing I hope we can still count on.................not being able to catch enough crabs to supply the market on Memorial Day Grin
