I just moved to Quantico, VA and have always wanted to try crabbing.  I'd appreciate any advice on places to go that i could try crabbing from docks or piers as my boat is still in Ohio.  Any ideas?

See some of post below for ideas/suggestions for crabbing from piers/docks.  Also so ideas on where to rent a boat for the day.  Lots of info on this board, just use the search function and then ask for help.  Good luck.   Wink Wink Smiley

Most of these are in Maryland, maybe someone from the tidewater region (Norfolk, ...) can help out.

There are a number of docks and piers in Quantico and the surrounding area where you might want to try, but I think you will have better luck going down river to Colonial Beach. It has been years since I was there but I remember there being good places to crab. (And if your luck isn't too good there are some good crab houses there!) The land between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers is known as the Northern Neck. There are many piers, boat ramps, and marinas on both rivers as well as the bay. Check out some of the Northern Neck websites for specific locations. Based on my experience so far, it looks like it is going to be a very good year for non-commercial crabbers there.

I just spoke to a guy who docks his boat at the Quantico base marina and he suggested the pier at the boat ramp at Hospital Point. It is on base property so you may have to be military to use it. He says he sees people catching them there all summer. BTW he also said that the marina itself is off limits to crabbing and fishing.
