I was talking to a friend about preserving crabmeat and he told me he once froze six crabs in a bucket of water for a month, defrosted them to cook, and as he reached for one, it reared back and tried to snatch at him with his claws. He said other five did not revive like this, and it only happened the one time. Wierd but true, this guy is a straight shooter.

for what its worth,

Known in reptiles also. Glycogen buildup in tissues protects from freezing.

My wife told me about this some years ago. I said Bull Scrap! I did a little "Frankenstein" with the freezer to prove her wrong. Grin I put 18 small Jimmies in for 24 hours in a brown bag. well I got them out and let them sit a few hours in the big pot. When I called the wife to come see they all looked as dead as a road killed rabbit. She starts getting them out of the pot one by one. When she was done she had 15 dead ones in a pile, and three live ones trying like [Sam Hill] to run away from her. Its true I guess. Yes I washed they all up and had steamed crabs for breakfast.
