Got there at 630 rain or no rain were going,17 topless from Kevin,chicken was the bait.Crabbed maple creek area very very hard.Jumped around alot.Crabs on almost every pull till the tide stopped.Had a half bushel by 11 am.Were not leaving till we fill this thing!Dropped floats for the whole slack tide......I always wanted to try that.Keeps you busy.Picked up 3-4 on every string.Tide started to move again and boy was it rippin out.Back on the hook.Finished up at 4pm with a full bushel about 60-70 crabs.Tons 4 1/2, 5 inch was the average good bit of 51/2 and the moster of the day was a 6 1/2 incher!I actually felt him in the trap!Got rained on 2 times not that bad.Only saw about 5 boats the whole day.Almost forgot,Did not catch one female the entire day!Whats up with that?I think it`s gonna be another great year!

With all this rain I cant imagine what the bugs will be like in a week. Better get the bee keeper suite ready.

The green heads were out,but the wind and my old friend DEET kept them at bay.Trust me if you missed a spot they would let you know.As for the full bushel it was a little light,I didn`t say the top was blowing off,just that for our first trip of the year in (June) I was very impressed.If we wanted to keep every keeper that came on the boat that day we could have beat a bushel.I was excited and a little anxious to share my day...not to mention stuffed to the gills with crabs and beer.I`m sorry if I got anyones hopes up,you cant catch a bushel till August 31st.But if you can`t stand waiting around and need to get outta the house for the day I would give the place a shot. ;

HEADING OUT THIS SAT. HOPEFULLY. LAST WEEKEND I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE WITH ALUM BOAT AND LIGHTNING PLUS THE SEASON IS JUST STARTING. ONE QUESTION, WHAT % DEET IS EFFECTIVE AGAINST GREENHEADS? OVER THE YEARS I TRIED EVERYTHING . THE GNATS AND MOSQUITOS WOULD BE DETERED BUT GREENHEADS JUST LAUGHED THEN BIT THE SHIP OUT OF YOU. ANY PARTICULAR BRAND OF BUG SPRAY MORE EFFECTIVE THAN THE OTHERS?
THANKS
PJ

I read somewhere recently that a couple of sheets of Bounce will give you some added protection to repel bugs...

PJ I used Deep Woods Off at 25% last year and had no problems. Wasn't on the creeks this last weekend but was at a pig roast on a horse farm and used the stuff and was nice and comfortable while others were complaining of flies. I did pick up a bottle of 95% this year as an extra strength backup tho. herb

Eat vinegar in some form for 2-3 days before you'll encounter bugs. Put balsamic vinegar on a salad. It works. At least for me. I guess the vinegar seeps out of your skin and bugs don't like it. Maybe I'm not a good example, cause I can stand right next to my girl, and she'll get eaten alive, and I don't even know there are bugs around!

I, too, am going to DC Sat..only day so far w/no forecast of rain. Maybe I should reserve a boat ahead of time...better yet..maybe stay in town overnight Fri...avoid the 50 min ride...(I'd still probably be late!)
