Historic Corolla Park

Hey all,

Went crabbing off the rocky point of Historic Corolla Park today.  I'm pretty much land based/dock based hand liner when I'm in Maryland. Today I caught one small female and one small male by wading out to some old pilings, tying my lines off and checking each every 10 min or so. Was in the water from about 430-530 pm so not very great timing, but I also felt like a lot of against me already.

Is the OBX/Currituck crab-able for a land-lubber? I know the sound is very shallow.
Are there any skiff rental places people know about?

Been crabbing the currituck about 10 miles south of you off Sanderling.   There are pontoon rentals in Duck at a couple of places (North Duck water sports) and another place i cannot remember.  I do not recall seeing boat rentals north by light house.     You may also want to consider renting a kayak and paddling out to crab.   Make sure you get an anchor if you rent a kayak.   

We have had limited success crabbing from shore in Sanderling.  1 out of every 15-20 crabs is a keeper or over 5".   

As you noted the water is really shallow and brackish with less salt concentration the further north you go.   The depth is not impacted by tides but really by the winds.  A strong east wind can make the sound mud for 100+ yards from the shore heading west towards the main land.  A strong west wind can add 2-3 feet of depth near oceanside  shore of the Currituck

Called all around and couldn't find a skiff or Jon boat for rental. Pontoon is too expensive for me, and just too big to be a good solution I think.

Might try to rent a kayak for a full night/into day so I can get out early and hand line off that.

Seems like the sound is hard to crab effectively from land.

yeah pontoons are nut$$$$.   

was hoping in the shoulder season the pricing become reasonable guess it did not.  good luck!
