Harford Crabber

My daughters family lives near NewBern and several years ago my soninlaw and I took the grandkids handlining off the piers at Union Point Park.  We did ok, I think a couple dozen, and had a great time.  I think the flood from Florence a couple years ago wiped out the piers.  I'm wondering if anybody crabs near New Bern?  I'm in MD and only get down there a couple times each year.  I was wondering if it's enough crabs there to go to the trouble of pulling my 17'er down and giving it a shot next summer?
I love to fish, but I live to crab.

HC, I'm 30 min from New Bern. During crabbing season I see the Neuse littered with commercial pots when driving by there. There's must be crabs there. I would bring your boat, and give it a shot. I would check the NC crab regs first.

I hear checking regs... Just like MD is different between Chesapeake and ocean,  I know NC is different between coastline and inland. I've seen those crabpot floats at the mouth of the Trent, but I've never seen anybody  running em to see how many they get.      Thanks for your comment.

Yes,  There are lots of crabs.   If you are a harford crabber than you probably pull traps like me.  you can use any many traps in NC as your like, except your catch is limited to 100 crabs..    They have some crazy limit on trot lines, like a 100 feet or something.   Not even worth it.     No crab pots for rec unless you get RCGL license.   and that is expensive for out of staters..

Hey Mike, are you absolutely sure you can use as many crab traps as you want in NC waters?

Thanks,
Greg

That question was for Brian, not Mike.
