Dropped my first pots ever in Florida a few days ago, and yesterday it was time to pull them. Being originally from Maryland, I'm not used to dropping pots and leaving them as that was always what the commercial guys did back home. I didn't have huge expectations my first time out given the poor reports coming out of the region but was pleasantly surprised with a decent amount of crabs. All were really good-sized (#1 and #2's) and full. Even managed to catch three of the invasive Bocourt crabs which were kept.

Threw back all the #2's and only kept the bigger ones (13) which was plenty for my girl and me.

If anybody is in the area and wants to discuss tactics, and strategy, let me know.

Cheers all,
R

Thanks for the report and picture!
Glad to hear you got some!
I think it's time I go and give it another try!
Let us know how the red crabs taste compared to the blues!
Retired in paradise!

Hey Shellfish - I think you should definitely get out there. Always happy to share a few beers and discuss tactics. The red ones aka Bocourt Swimming Crabs tasted just like the blue crabs. Morphologically speaking, they just have less robust claws, which means less claw meat. Other than that, they were pretty tasty.

Best,
