The range of the blue crab is from Nova Scotia, down the east coast of North America (including the Chesapeake Bay), off Bermuda, throughout the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea (including the Antilles Islands), and down the east coast of South America to northern Argentina. Although the blue crab is rarely found north of Cape Cod, it has been seen in Maine and Nova Scotia following consecutive warm years.

The blue crab has been introduced, probably via ship ballasts into Europe, north Africa, and southwest Asia. Introductions into the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent waters have produced breeding populations whereas others were probably temporary occurrences. The blue crab also has been introduced into Japan."

With multi year and multi decade climate cycles, my guess is that this has happened many times before. We are just at a point where we can document and track these things now.

When I was a kid I caught a blue crab in the surf at Ft. Foster in Kittery Maine. That was the summer of 1982. I think the prevailing catastrophe du jour in those days was acid rain and another ice age being right around the corner. Just sayin...

That sounds a little too complex. I go with the "All water is connected, and crabs walk wherever the [Sam Hill] they want" theory. That just seems more logical.

Exactly. Blue crabs have been in the Gulf of Maine for probably thousands of years. Scientists find a few last year and we have to hear the climate change confirmation bias lecture for the millionth time. Guess what, there will be a couple hurricanes this year too which will cause the talking heads to spew more climate hysteria. Forget about the fact that there are hurricanes every year. Its why they call it hurricane season.

It would be great if there were enough blue crabs up here that I wouldnt have to drive 2 hours to buzzards bay all summer to catch them.
