Is this something new with trotlines?

As far as I know the 600' limit for trotlines IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN has been that way for some time. I don't know since when, but it says the same limit in my copy of the 2022 MD fishing guide.

That applies only to the Atlantic ocean, coastal bays and tributaries though.

You can still run up to a 1200' line in the Chesapeake bay and ITS tidal tributaries.

Remember there are different rules for the bay and it's tribs vs. the ocean and it's tribs vs. the Potomac... each of which has their own little nuances on the rules. That's confusing sometimes but it is what it is.

Thank you, I knew there were differences, but never realized the lengths change by waterway.

  For the most part think of the Atlantic bays as the water behind Ocean City and Assateaque Island.
