Im in MD trying to make some crab pots. I know in MD your pots can't be more than 24" long. I'm curious to see what other people use for their meshes when using 1 1/2" square mesh wire. How many of the meshes are you all counting. I was doing 16 x 48 for the top and bottom and 19 for the baffle. What to see how other people are doing it or if I'm doing it right. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean 16x48 for top and bottom.  Two pieces of the pot need to be in a shape like this [  I think a pot was 23 meshes high.  Had the length of the [ marked on the table.  I want to say the partition was 21 meshes.

When I cut the two halves of the pot from the 1 1/2" square mesh roll I count out 48 mesh from the 16 mesh wide roll and then cut it there. When I make the pot it comes out to be pretty much exactly 24" x 24" x 24" which is fine , but I've noticed that other people's crab pots don't have the same number of meshes high as mine. I didn't know if there was a reason for that or if just saves material or something 🤷‍♂️

Mr. Ray III

It saves material keeping it a mesh short of 24''.  I don't know why I said 23 meshes in my last post so disregard that.  Also when I crabbed, some of my pots were 24'' tall and when a storm came they would roll.  Most of the time, the guys with 1 less mesh, would have their gear moved less than mine and that was the only difference in the pots.  You wouldn't think that one little extra mesh would make a difference but I really think it did.

This is how it's going to go.  After I kick your A$$ i'm going to run you through the wood chipper and put you in containers in the freezer to use in my crab pots!  The really sad part?  You let an old man kick your A$$!!!
