Any place not too far from NYC to throw down traps?

Hi! I wanted to take my 4 year old and family crabbing this weekend somewhere not too far off from NYC. I was hoping for a nice place where we can throw some traps down and sit around/picnic and such.

What is your definition of "not too far off"?  Mantoloking is a nice area for a 4 year old.  Not promising any keepers, but should be fun for the kid.
