Hello,

I live in a tidal canal and have a semi closed system. I run my water from my tank to a 5 gallon bucket and then back into my tank. Every 2-3 days, I drain the tank and pump new water from my canal into my tank.

My issue is my tank is outside and it gets hot some days, how can I cool the water? I currently have a fan blowing on the water, and everything is under shade. Is there any other way to cool the water down?

In addition, is my "semi closed system" idea okay? I would love to pump fresh water from the canal all the time, but my tide gets very low and I don't want kill the pump.

I'm in the process of changing the 5 gallon bucket into a 55 gallon bucket and I am also looking at putting some oyster shells into this new tank. Any other suggestions? Cooling the water seems to be the biggest hurdle right now.

Try using a heat exchanger.  Use the water from canal to cool the exchanger.
This is how it's going to go.  After I kick your A$$ i'm going to run you through the wood chipper and put you in containers in the freezer to use in my crab pots!  The really sad part?  You let an old man kick your A$$!!!
