so here i go again. i turn my cooler down last fall to keep deer, temp set at 35 and minimum differential is 5 degrees so thats 35 to 40 degrees and thats where i leave it til i start crabbin. so i changed the temp for crabs and set it at 50 and the dif should let it go to 55. now it does pull down to 50 and should go to 55 and it worked fine all last season. now it is dropping to 50 but only going up to 52 the comes on and goes to 50. i tired of messin with it for now but the big question is ,is 50 to 52 degrees ok for crabs? i store the from 2 to 3 days, may be 4 sometimes. i don't want to kill my crabs. need an ansewer asap. waiting for my refrig guy to call me but he works full time.

This is how it's going to go.  After I kick your A$$ i'm going to run you through the wood chipper and put you in containers in the freezer to use in my crab pots!  The really sad part?  You let an old man kick your A$$!!!

That's perfect temperature....I was always told 48-52 is where you want your fridge set....Mine used to always be between 49-52 and I could keep crabs for days(I don't usually go over 3/4).  I've had a few dozen females at this temp live for a week and not even have 1 die still trying to pinch just like when they were caught.  DO NOT GO BELOW 48 or they will all get really slow and pretty much die.  I've had a lot of trial and error with this subject.  Also, always cover them with wet burlap or an old wet towel, having air hit them will mean more dead loss.  This is whether its a few dozen or the whole basket itself.  Good luck

You'll be fine.  I drove a load of crabs up from NC in late December, at night, in the bed of my truck.  It was low-mid 30's, I thought they were dead.  Put them in the garage for an hour and they started moving.  They are some tough mf'ers.

What I would give for 6x8 after a day like today!!!
