Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well. I've been using the Coolbot system for 2 years now, but this year I seem to be having more issues with crabs not surviving as long in the cooler. Everything is set up the same as last year, so I'm a bit puzzled. I'm curious to know how everyone else has their system set up - like what temperature do you have it at, do you put wet towels over the bushel baskets, or maybe use a thin blanket to block the direct airflow? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Since its the same as years past, I would blame it on the crabs - at least out of my locations the crabs have been just a bit off on average quality and the heat has been brutal.  The full moons coinciding with some busy weekends could be a factor, I noticed more deadloss as well.  Some tips would be to keep a bucket of river water in the cooler to keep the humidity up and burlap in the top of your baskets (if that is practical) depending how they are selling back out.

I know rhe coolbot is the latest and seems like every backyard crab seller is using them but you're not going to convince me blowing cold air around a walk cooler is good for crabs.

I used an air conditioner for 30 years without any adverse effects. I did keep a damp cover over the baskets and directed the airflow toward the ceiling, not directly at the baskets. Re-dampen the cover as needed and make sure the unit doesn't ice up in extremely hot conditions. After all, most refrigerated units do operate by blowing cold air.

Every walk in cooler blows cold air around.

Like you wet your shorts?
This is how it's going to go.  After I kick your A$$ i'm going to run you through the wood chipper and put you in containers in the freezer to use in my crab pots!  The really sad part?  You let an old man kick your A$$!!!
