Me and my buddy Latz took The Chauncey down to the Navesink. We dropped in at Swimming River Park. First time there; very nice facility and ramp. The day started out slow, but once the tide started coming in, things really picked up. Went home with 31 nice keepers, and threw back about 40 shorts and females. Great day to be on the water. Also had a close up visit from two swans.

Crabbola i knew when you said you were going to stay a little closer up north that the Navesink should produce,.Over the years late August and September were always good.I have not crabbed in the sink or shrews in 5 years. Good report to read.Enjoy your meal. What bait did you use. Also it looked like the Oceanic bridge you were under with the swan in the photo.

Nice!  I think this may be one of the first Navesink reports on actually crabbing all year.  Nice catch.  Short run home too.

Crabbin Paisano,
I read a lot of reports, and have a buddy that lives on the Shrews, and it seems that the action is not that strong there yet. We used chicken thighs. The pic with the swan was taken under the Route 35 bridge. Saw a number of families out crabbing with young kids in rental boats from Red Bank Marina; nice to see.

Nice haul!!  We went in July and got 2 dozen. Then there was some type of major sewage pipe accident and they recommended not fishing and crabbing there. Guess the advisory has been lifted??

crabbola

Yes, the advisory was lifted more than a month ago, and I ate most of the crabs and I'm still alive!
