Forecast was for SW winds 10-15, Sunny with late day thunderstorms. Headed out at 10:30am off Good Luck point, double anchored in 4 feet of 73 degree water with a slow incoming tide. 7 Topless craps baited with chicken. Noticed right away that the winds were West, North West off the ITT marshes and it was hot. Immediately the black flies were killing us. Bug spray did little to nothing. We hung out the best we could, but crabbing was awful. In two hours we only caught one keeper. Nothing else...not even shorts. Plus an Eel kept stealing our bait. (we finally caught it, but let it go). After two hours, bit up and hot we called it the day and had a nice lunch at a Restaurant on the Toms River.
But this is how it has been at Good Luck point. The best crabbing there in the last 10-15 years is June and July. Then it fades fast.
Does anyone know where they go after July? Further down the bay toward the light house? Or is the bay all crabbed out by August?
Older timers then me always say that the best crabbing is September/October when they are fully grown for the season. I have not seen that in years at Good Luck Point.
Any info on the south side of the Rt 37 bridge would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mikeacy  i hear your dilemna, for years we killed em at Dicks from july to September then it changed.I started going to the Navesink 15-20 years ago by the Oceanic bridge and did real well, then the last 5 years alot of commercial pots . try around Beaverdam creek in Brick or the Metedeconk, then if you go south,go past bayville to Barnegat .Wewent in early august and did very well. If you go further south all the way to New Gretna Route 9 bridge you should be ok. Lastly i heardSouth of that has been slow, like the Fort or Dc.
