I setup my 14' boat for solo trot line crabbing. Using this setup took a little getting used to but now I don't have to wait for my buddy to get off work to go. I've been running tiller outboards since I was a kid so it's not that different for me. When I'm using it I have a string connected to my belt and to the kill switch on the motor for emergency stops. Check it out here

Hate to tell you now but they do make a stick steer for small outboards with only a single cable, but this method is a lot cheaper.

Where did you see that?

I don't have any experience with them but I was going to use this until I found out it is limited to 70hp motors.

I looked all over the net for an idea but only found one Utube vid of a guy that rigged something similar w/sticks n rubberbands LOL. As I recall with the pulleys and cable that I had to buy it only cost me about $35. The other little pulleys n fastners came from my garage. Bracket on the motor that the cables connect to can be disconnected for when I'm not crabbing.
What size is your motor?

I have a 90.  Went with conventional wheel instead.

I'm surprised that they only make that cable unit to be mounted on the "port" side of the boat. It would seem like there should be more demand for one that would mount on the "starboard" side. They do make a hydraulic unit that can mount on either side, but it just uses a helm pump like any other hydraulic steering, plus it requires a hydraulic cylinder to be mounted under the motor. I think crawdaddy did the right thing by rigging up the old style cable/pulley setup. He mounted it where he wanted it, plus the steering works the way it should. I'm sure it was much more economical. Great job!
