Thought I'd share a video of my shedding setup. Seems to work best with Facebook. Try this one

My family eats most of what I shed out. I may try to set up some more tanks and sell a few next season. Tough to beat the price per crab you can get compared to a hard crab.

Looks  good.  I would add a 4-6" pvc pipe sitting over the drain.  This causes the drain to drain from the bottom of the tank instead of skimming the fresh water from the top.  Also drill a quarter inch hole in the base of the drain pipe.  The hole will drain the tank if the pump/electric fails.  The peeler can live in the little bit of water but will die pretty fast from lack of ox if the tank stays full.

Thanks. I have a piece of 6" pvc with notches on the bottom I put over the drain, just not in the video.

I still havent drilled that small hole in the drainpipe for when power goes out. I need to do that next spring.

Here's  a photo of the pipe I'm using, guessing similar to yours. Some other things in the one photo I use a lot, old fish basket cut in half, the thing to measure salinity, and the dip net.

Jack knows all of the tricks of the trade. That drain allowing the water to escape during a pump failure is extremely important. I don't know how much sediment or waste you get with a closed system, rounding the corners on the inside of the tank would improve the flushing motion of the water as it circulates and help to drain out the waste.

Lets see some pictures with 500 peelers in it!

Good idea to round the corners. That poly-fil used for quilting that I lay on top the shell filters a lot of the debris, and the top keeps a lot of debris out of it.

I end up overloading it with peeler sometimes and they start getting hung up. I end up freezing peelers or selling them as bait because at times I get too many.

I need another tank.
