White Spots on the Back of the Carapace

Anybody know what these white spots are (see photo)? I caught several last week with this. I'm thinking maybe they are ready to molt?? Hopefully not a disease as we ate these delicious beasties...

Pretty sure it's where the swim fin hits the carapace while they swim.  Almost all crabs have em.
I love to fish, but I live to crab.

That's what I was always told it was. If you watch them swimming you can see how far that swim fin goes over the shell. They really are fascinating creatures.
