9/28 in the Tomoka State Park, and Area.   NOT A SINGLE CRAB.

This is two days after Hurricane Helene. The water was full of tannins and very high.  There was a giant surge of fresh water into the area clearly.

Crabbed the docks at Tomoka State Park on both sides of the road and did some spot crabbing up and down the road way all the way up into old dixie highway scenic route.

8 am and crabbed until 2pm.  It was sunny and hot.

Bait used was Chicken backs in ring traps and hand lines.

I saw one small blue crab on a rock that was female.  She wasn't interested at all.

NOTE *  Saw plenty of people fishing from the bridges etc.  No one ever reeled up a fish the whole time.

Mr. Ray III

I'm not surprised.  When a hurricane comes through, more often then not, there is just as much destruction to the marine environment as on land.

Yeah, I figured since the hurricane was more towards the big bend of Florida that the East coast would be okay since they really only got some rain.  Must of had alot of rain.

SHELLFISH

I talked to a crabber in New Smyrna Friday. Two hours and only three crabs. Not too good!
Talked to another crabber yesterday. He had seven crabs after two hours. Better.
Thanks for your complete report but sorry to hear you weren't rewarded.
Retired in paradise!
