NOREAST

12 ring traps baited with c/n's and a surprise bait
Incoming tide
68.3 - 70.5 degrees
3'- 5' water depth
Culled at 5", 12 over 6"
This was going to be a blowfish/ clamming trip on Saturday, but the Captain was under the weather and we postponed till Sunday. No clamming on Sunday, so I turned it into a blue fishing, blow-fishing, and crabbing trip. After a 3 day marathons last week at the annual Wye party, the Captain wasn't too pleased about the crabbing part of the trip. Headed out to the inlet crack of dawn to top water for some bluefish after a good report from my buddy the day before, nothing. Headed to the blow-fishing grounds for a last try of the year after hearing that a new world record might have set on Saturday, nothing. Tried another spot some miles away, nothing. Water was crystal clear as i could see our anchor 8' down, and as i shook the chum pot, the cloud that came out from it told me there's nothing around. Off to the crabbing  grounds after a good lunch. 1st run of 12 let me know the crabs were there. After learning that some beef jerky was the hot bait down at the Wye river, I decided to try my $5 piece of squid that I bought for blow fishing. Second run we caught the biggest crab of the day, 6 1/2".  That was the last crab we caught on the new hot bait. Ended the day with 3/8 of a bushel after 14 quick runs. Turned out to be the nicest day of the year weather/ wind wise all season. Gave the crabs away to the dock master who's Husband loves crabs. Note: after crabbing the last 2 weekends down in Maryland, the crabs look so Small. Another note: Bought a case of c/n's from the meat stop in Willingboro, a box of garbage. Normally get 16-18 bags of 50 per 40 LBS. case. This case produced 9 bags because there was so much chicken skin around the neck bone, it was 20 LBS of skin and 20 LBS. of necks. If you want to find my secret spot, look for the seagulls flying around my boat looking for some scraps. Overall a great day on the water. The last photo was a special feast at the Wye party, thanks Capt. Ron

Noreast some big crabs still in Barnegat good to see,I saw that you were near the bb or research buoy no luck with blowfish? They were all over 2-3 weeks ago. I wonder if they are gone for the year. All in all you had a great day.

Started at the research and ran down to the 42 buoy. I think I waited 1 week too long again, 2nd year in a row.

Glad you had fun, Ray. That all that ever matters anyway.

Ray this weekend supposed to be warm,i may go with my friend Vinny, back to the same spot we went to,for the blowfish. I am going to ask around to some of the guys that go this week, and send some intel on the blowfish situation.

NOREAST

crabbing paisano, I can't believe that they all left. The tide just turned, incoming tide,  crystal clear water, chumming heavy, everything was what you're looking for, but no fish. That's the way it goes sometimes. If you go, i would appreciate a PM, but thinking of going north for a crabbing trip.  Just checked the forecast for Saturday, 10-15 mph, gusting to 20 out of the West. Won't be very nice at the blow fishing grounds. Sunday might be better day. Good luck if you go.

Noreast, the blowfish are back as of tuesday and wednesday my friend on the High Flier Dave De Gennaro caught some big blowfish 2 of which he kept alive to the baitshop for a IGFA record for a northern Puffer it was 1.2 lbs over 11 inches long and when he puffed up the fish was 18 inches around. He made a video and released the big guy back into Barnegat bay. I will try and send you the video. i think im going Sunday morning early 7 00am. My cell is 732-754-5810

Glad to hear the reports were not disinformation and the new record for blowfish might be broken. Going to head up North to crab the Shrew's for my virgin run of that river on Sunday.

Not only fill the basket, but I'm thinking a couple of stripers around the bridge. I always have my expectations very high, that's why I don't get much sleep the night before. Talk to a couple of veterans from the Wye party that gave me some very good intel about the area along with google satellite, so i have a good understanding of the area already. Keep in mind, I do catch every red light.
