Start: 7:52
Water temp: 66.2
Wind Speed: 21 MPH
Key Depth: 12'-14'
Gear: 1200' trotline w/ CN, 17 Perfectionist rings w/CN
Finish: 11:11 to fill basket
12:08 to finish culling for bigger crab

Start time is getting later and later. Since Monday was a so-called "holiday", and weather forecast was not remotely friendly, I had no idea what to expect when I got to ramp. So I left at normal time. Outside of Chuck's diesel engine grumbling behind Schnaitman's, I was the ONLY vehicle there. I knew we were in for extremely high winds later, but at this moment, the water was a sheet of glass, and the air temp was 65 degrees. So we jumped in and headed out. There was no way I was trying my normal spots, knowing that strong WNW winds were heading in. So we set up our line deep (11'-17'), in a whole new, wind protected area, and we set our traps parallel to our line on both sides. It was steady, consistent catching all day, and until cull time, 85% were rock hard, dark, and completely packed (100% after cull time). It was about 60/40 catch on line vs. rings, with a lot of dropoffs seen on the line. Only a handful of other boats out there. All-in-all a great day, and we even got to have a little fun out there and share some exciting news with friends. This was our creative way of doing it (pictures #1 and #2). That's my daughter in the photo.
We threw that crab in the cull bucket and made her friend sort that run. When she picked it up and read it, she started jumping up and down.  Pretty cool river moment.

Congratulations Rick, both on a good crabbing trip and on the announcement of your future grandchild. This is going to be a trip you will remember forever.
There's no place like roam!

Thanks for the report and that incredible sunrise pic. I'm driving from Ohio this weekend to go crabbing with my brother-in-law and my nephews. Thought about going to Crab Alley but that sunrise is making me reconsider!

Rick, another banner trip and what a run you have been on this year. Im starting to think that you might be the MVP of the year, or the MVC of the year. (Most Valuable Crabber). You have put together a string of limit trips all season with a bunch of different crew members. I'm starting to think the Captain knows what his doing, but I'm not there yet. Now you're adding another family crew member, not a level playing field. Congratulations to the family and yourself on the addition to the family and i think you have another trip or two before the _ _ _lady starts singing.

Another solid report! Nice pics too. We had wind gusts up to 40 mph in northern DE. that day and I would never try to go out on a day like that. But you found some protected cove and crabbed on. Bravo Zulu.
Thinking of at least one more trip next week
and hoping this cold front did not move them out too deep(?)

Be safe out there.

Awesome trip. Congratulations to your daughter and to you and your family. Future crabber coming on board.

Nice going Rick. Boats covered in for the season. Needed new side guides on the trailer since the others rusted off and it made it hard to get the boad back on the trailer. Looking forward to a good 2025 season.
And congrats! on bieing a PopPop. :o
