River on Kent Island 900ft trot Line 4ft 7ft Chicken Necks. My best Depth was 5ft crabbing was slow today 745am till 10am then I headed into work no time to move line deeper most crabs were rusty but some whitebelly's. Tide was very low and barely moving. This might be my last trip for the season. I had a great year in the shallows. I checked the wind for this weekend and it wasn't looking good so I decided to go before work this morning. I did see a ton of crabs dropping off early but thats par for the course this time of year when the water is clear.

Wahoo

Since someone ate crabs, others must have eaten spiders as well.  However, they were not tasty.
So afterwards, people stopped eating them.   These people deserve our heartfelt gratitude  :)

Nice job, and thanks for the report.  I am thinking of learning to work a trotline from a kayak next year. For fall crabbing in clear water I will probably stay with ring traps.

Yeah maybe I will invest in a few ring traps. I wonder how many I would need to get say half bushel in late fall

During summer months I only take 15-20 ring traps. The crabs will eat up the bait fast, it is possible to deploy more rings than you can effectively work.  In the early Spring and late Fall I take the legal 30 traps, the crabs are slower and the bait lasts much longer.

2 years ago,I bought extra orange meshed bags for my trotline. I run 1200 ft, and sometimes take along 20 rings.
After running the line, culling, and move on to the rings, I too lost many baits. So, one day, said WTH, put in 2 to 3 small necks into the bags, pinned them to the bottom of the rings.
Success, have yet to lose any baits. Not once. No difference in catching. Actually used rings without a line a couple times this year, no lost baits and a packed bushel was the result both times.
Just an idea.
Take care
