I really did think that my trip on 10/11/24 was going to be my final trip of the year as I reported.  Then Wallco and Jake and Hobiewanknob were posting their late season trips.  Then two thing crossed my mind 1) it's going to be a long time before I can crab again 2) I could imagine Adam's (arti0972) voice telling me to get my [arse] back out there and catch some more crabs. So I loaded up the kayak for another final trip right back where I started my season on April 8, for the 2024 season. Got to the ramp at a location that always produces well for me. Water temp was 54.3 degrees as I started laying my Perfectionist (some where Adams that Jeanie gave me after he passed) and a few left over Allerio bros rings. After about an hour nothing was happening, I figured the deeper water was cooler, I knew an area about a half mile away that was shallower and would warm quicker from the sun. I loaded my gear back onto the kayak and paddled the half mile and redeployed my rings. At about 11am, I started getting crabs as the water was warming. At about 2pm I took about 15 rings back to my original deeper location, the water had warmed some and the sun had the big boys active. Crabbed there until about 3:30 and pulled that gear. I made my way back to the other half of my rings a half mile away and pulled them and collected the crabs from them as each was pulled. It, turned out to be a nice day on the water aside from being a little breezy. The downside is that I forgot my hat, thankfully I did have sun glasses. Ended the day with the half bushel I was after and had a good time out on the water. The wait to get back out there will be a little shorter, and I hope Adam is smiling watching his rings still catching crabs. He used to consider October the best crabbing month and November was bonus crabbing. Crabbing the first week on November was ok, typically by the second week it wasn't worth the effort. One year it stayed so warm he and I actually crabbed past thanksgiving. Well, this time I think it really was my last trip for the year, the fat lady may not have sung yet, but I could swear I heard her warming up, or was it just the wind?

P.S. for the shorties that I threw back yesterday, I will see you in April 2025!

It sounds tempting Rick, but on my trip on 10/11 the laundry basket I use to hold my culled crabs was cracking. On my trip on 11/4 the waste basket that I use to dump crabs out of my rings started cracking.  I have been using these two items since I started crabbing with Adam. The years of sun and wear and tear took a toll on the plastic. I will replace them and be ready for April 2025. I might even hit the Wye a few times next year with the kayak.
