I was not able to crab for the last 2 weeks, and I knew that would be problematic this time of year. I took my best guess based on water temp and past experience this time of year. First spot I made 4 runs, first run 0, second run 4, third run 2, last run 0. We moved, it just wasn't looking good. I moved way down towards the mouth of the river. The breeze was blowing stiff enough I needed to work with it a bit, so it influenced my lay. I found a strip with a bit of protection and 16'-23' of depth. I laid it out and it was better, but not great. I was getting at least 1 crab every run. I probably should have moved again, but my son said lets just do our thing and have fun being out here, so that's what we did. We joked, made fun of ourselves, and just enjoyed the day. Ended with 29 keepers, and as you can see by my numbers, they were all good. I had so many rock hard mudders I couldn't believe it. These were the best crabs I've caught all year, no question. Just weren't enough of them.

If I was going out again next weekend, I'd go down to 30' at least and I think I would hit them. I was catching pretty much all the crabs in a 20-23' hole at one end of my line. They are definitely going deep on the Tred. I'm calling my year done. My son and I had a blast this year. This kid is addicted I think.

Anyway, here are a couple pictures. We were running a bit late in the morning, but managed to see an amazing sky coming over the bridge. My son was sad that crab was too small, it should be obvious why. lol

You got out there gave the effort, that is more than most are willing to do this time of year.  You got enough for a meal and had a good day out on the water and you are training the next generation of crabbers. Sounds like a good day in my book.
There's no place like roam!

You'll be back for that rusty mudder!   Nice fall catch!
Since someone ate crabs, others must have eaten spiders as well.  However, they were not tasty.
So afterwards, people stopped eating them.   These people deserve our heartfelt gratitude  :)

Great job Dad, you planter the seed of the great outdoors in your son. All of us have that special person in our lives that did it to us. To be out crabbing this time of year tells me your son is one tough cookie. Thanks for the report.

That must be fun runing a trot line that deep. Your the man! Last time I tried deep it was a disaster.

Good go of it, KC. I'm giving it one last shot tomorrow, well actually, tonight. Gonna give my 14'-17' depth one more try. I'll go deeper if need be, but I'm going to head out to my "end of the year" spot and hopefully it works out. 3 MPH winds and 70 degree weather should make this a very enjoyable trip. Combine that with 62-64 degree AM temperature when we get to the dock and last last night's incredible outcome, and I think I'm ready to have me some fun. Sh it yeah!!!

8) Good luck thinking that you will have the river to yourself.
