Hi everybody,

I'm interested in information about crabbing in Chatham or anywhere in Cape Cod. I've heard that you need licenses to catch crabs in Cape Cod towns. Does anyone know where to get them and about how much do they cost? Also, can someone give me tips on where and when to crab in Cape Cod? I went there once last time and came back empty hand. Thanks alot!

heelo there. i live in dennis.i have been crabbing on the cape for 4 years now. you don't need a license for crabbing unless you are using traps. the only rules you need to know are you can't keep females or any crab under 4-1/8" in width. a popular place i go for crabs is "crab creek" on north dennis rd or rt 28 where clancy's rest is. i have been looking for other spots farther down cape.  also if you have a canoe you can paddle the creeks in search of those wonderful blue crabs. a canoe would be very helpful on the herring river in dennis. i have been there once and had a very good trip. the people i talk to say the herring river is the best place to go. talk to you soon

Thanks a lot for your tip! I'm looking forward to having a great day at Dennis. BTW, what counts as a trap? Ring nets and/or box traps and/or dip nets and/or hand lines maybe?

WOW!

That brings back memories, my granparents lived in West Yarmouth, we would vacation on the cape every summer. We used to crab on the little pier at crab creek don't know if it is still there. Its been a few years since I have been to the Cape hopefully we will make it back soon. Its nice to know the other place as well, hopefully I will be able to try it when I go back.
