Until the first hurricanes in 2005, I enjoyed incredible crabbing in the Indian River in South Titusville.  The grassy tidal flats everywhere were alive with crabs.  After the storms, the grass areas dissappeared, replaced with bare sand.  the crabs dissapeared.  In two years my traps have produced 0 crabs.  Now I understand that the grass is necessary for concealment, but I'd expect at least a couple of crabs to wander by.  Is it just my particular area or is the Indian River becoming overfished by crabbers? Is the environment suffering: too much fresh water discharge, not enough oxygen?  Are there too many stingrays?  Should I be using Winn Dixie chicken necks instead of Publix chicken necks?  Or, should I start learning how to eat stingrays? Any help?  Chipper

I have not heard of this before! There has always been good crabbing down there. If you get in good with some CNS guards maybe you can get into the Banana River. I have heard good things down there but never gone myself. Keep us informed how you do! I would certainly be interested. Good luck!

Most definitly keep us up to date. My Dad is retiring this summer and he's moving probably to Oviedo,(1hr from Titusville). He's a Marylander and loves crabs. So go and find them big ol' boogers and let us know where to go ;D
Lots of crabbers and crab lovers on here. If you enjoy crabs, lot's of info and good chat about crabs. Why not go ahead and donate to this forum. Deep down after doing research on here and chatting with others, you will find useful info from some new friends.ENJOY!!

It's not great crabbing over there right now but some are catching, it's like everywhere else in this state just need the right amount of rain and the knowledge of when to go where

RD, You are right on the money! I was there three weeks ago and the large crabs weren't moving. They are getting small ones right now (to 2") and using them for bait.

Chipper, Forget the crabs for a while till the water warms up and fish by the docks at dusk and later for trout. They're tearing them up right now!  Or go shrimping; they are running strong right now.
