Anybody know how big the state record blue crab is?

badbean

That's a good question. Biggest I have ever caught was a 10 incher on the Patapsco. I read once that the DNR caught some 11 inchers while doing their crab survey so I would guess it is somewhere around that size but I am sure there is a recorded record somewhere.

I found this on the Maryland DNR website.  8)

"The largest crab recorded from Maryland was a male measuring 9 inches; however bigger crabs (10-11 inches) have been captured in DNR crab surveys."

The obvious question is, why didn't you take this crab to a DNR office or weighing station and have it certified as a MD record? ??? It appears that the current recreational crabbing record is 9".
Please pack your trash out, pick up others', and leave your fishing spot cleaner than when you found it.

How long ago did you eat it?  Considering the recent sewage spill(s) in the Patapsco, you might want to start thinking about recycling....;)

Crabby JD

If you read "Beautiful Swimmers" Lester Lee Comm. Trot Liner was  catching 10" crabs on the Wye River in the sixties. People thought they were a different sub species.

Do you have a picture of said crab?

PICTURES SAY A 1000 WORDS

Louisiana is the world's most fertile blue crab grounds.  No where else in the world can you expect to catch 10 inch plus crabs on a regular basis.  No where else can you expect to catch the number of crabs that you catch in Louisiana.  If Louisianans saw crabbing as a recreational activity, as the folk in Maryland and nearby do, you'd start seeing pictures of 14 inch point to point crabs very soon.

East coast crabbers who have crabbed all their lives and not caught a 10 incher are angry and jealous.
